III. Minutes Linda Daye noted that her name and Francie Dye’s name were accidentally combined on the minutes for the last meeting. Stephanie Keener noted the change to the February minutes, Linda Daye made a motion that the minutes be accepted, with changes, with a second from Jill Markwood. Passed.
IV. Hardship and Sympathy Procedure. President Ed McGee wrote new policy which was reflected on the agenda for the meeting. It states:
The Classified Staff Association will send a sympathy card to full time staff members who lose a spouse, child, or parent. In the event of financial hardship, the president will send an e-mail to the entire staff to accept donations.
Following some discussion, the policy was to be written as (changes highlighted in blue): The Classified Staff Association will send a sympathy card to full time staff members who lose a spouse, child, sibling, or parent. In the event of financial hardship, the president will send an e-mail to the entire Classifed Staff Association to accept donations.
A motion to accept the policy was made by Lauren Calloway, second by Jill Markwood. Motion passed.
V. Caps and Gowns Fund. Discussion proceeded about raising money for emergency caps and gowns for students. It was noted that sometimes the Emergency Student Fund is used. Rather than the Classified Staff Association raising money for our own caps and gowns fund, we discussed making a donation to and raising additional funds for the Emergency Student Fund. A motion was made by Jill Markwood that: Of remaining Classified Staff Association funds, $125 will be donated to the Emergency Student Fund. An appeal will be made in the Daily Bulletin to raise matching funds from Classified Staff. Donations will be made through Catherine Rice in the Foundation Office. Motion made by Gayle Kiger, second by Jill Markwood. Motion Passed.
VI. Procedure for selecting search committees was discussed. This agenda item was brought to the Association by Diane Sykes. Members made the argument that a peer in the hiring department should be on search committees. A motion was made by Diane to review the current policy before the next Classified Staff Association meeting, seconded by Linda Daye. Motion passed.
VII. New Business. No new candidates for officers were identified. Officers will remain the same.
Lauren reminded the Classified Staff Association to take the Great Colleges to Work For survey if they received it.
VIII. Plans for Next Meeting A discussion of how to improve attendance: suggestions included a request from Dr. Capps, a mandate from department heads, and conducting a new salary survey. Twila DeMasters reminded that group that WorkForce Solutions loss of two departments will also impact the attendance. Linda Daye mentioned that Classified Staff may not be automatically added to our list for emails, like Faculty. Ed McGee says he will look into the list situation.
IX. Meeting was adjourned at 1:31pm.
