Meeting Date: 1/15/2020 12:00:00 AM
Gayle Kiger, Connie Deacon, Cathy Sanders, Shannon Hines, Barbara Thurston, Twila DeMasters, and Mary Zoccola.
Mary Zoccola gave the Treasurer’s Report reporting that the CSA Checking account has $206.87 and the CVCC Account has $150.00.

Meeting Minutes of December 18, 2019 were approved with the agreement that Connie will make the correction of Mary Zoccola instead of Mary Canfield in the minutes.
Mr. Chris Carpenter, Coordinator, of the MALL (Math Achievement Learning Lab, Room 3213, Bedford Hall) was our guest speaker. Chris explained that during the Fall 2019, the MALL expanded services to accommodate all Math courses offered at CVCC. Additional peer and professional tutors were hired, and a Canvas course was created for the MALL.  During Spring 2020, Chris has been pushing to work more with early alerts. He is hiring more peer tutors and plans to collaborate with instructors to create drop-in sessions for students. He plans to have tutors sit in on math classes to learn the styles of the instructors.
Chris would like to expand services to include Physics and Engineering and hopes to rebrand the MALL as a Stem Lab during the next few years.
This is a free service to our CVCC students. Students may drop in or call to make an appointment. Instructors and their classes are welcome. Call 434.832.6694.
NEW Business
It was discussed that we should offer a connection to the CSA Meetings using Zoom (web conferencing). Connie will discuss with Ed McGee.
There was discussion on fundraising for the CSA. One idea was discussing fundraising ideas with Market at Main being the vendor.  If we partner with them, we could possibly hold a one day event or spread out our profit over a month or semester.  Mary will discuss with Lewis Bryant and Market at Main.

New officers will need to be elected for the next term. There has been some interest in the position of President and Vice-President. If you know of someone that may be interested or if someone is interested, please contact a CSA member.

Mary Zoccola suggested that the term for the CSA officers change from 2-year to 1-year and officers voted back in at their discretion. This was voted on and passed by the members present. Mary will amend the by-laws and get on the agenda for the Governance Committee.
