Approval of May 12, 2015 Minutes
Cheryl Cunningham, co-facilitator, asked for any changes or amendments to the Minutes of May 12, 2015. There being none, the minutes were duly approved as presented.

Election of CGC Chair and Recorder for 2015-2016
Cheryl Cunningham was elected as the new CGC Chair and Loretta Marshall as the new CGC Recorder for 2015-2016.

Other Business:
Cheryl Cunningham, Chair, asked Kris Ogden if she had anything to update us on. Kris replied that everything was great and she hopes everyone has everything they need in working with the strategic plan and if they have any questions at all to contact her.
Dr. John Capps discussed how he had spoken at Convocation about CVCC recently being recognized as a Great College to Work For. The two areas which we were recognized as outstanding in were Collaborative Governance and Confidence in Senior Leadership.  Dr. Capps said that he is grateful, but there were other criteria that we came very close to, but didn’t quite make. Dr. Capps has “brewed” about the other standards where we didn’t score as well. He discussed how one of the initiatives that we will take this year is to examine each one of those standards “step-by-step” with recommendations to make the working conditions at CVCC even better than it already is.
The “new” Director of Strategic Initiatives, Will Sandidge, will be responsible for coordinating this initiative. The immediate question is how to organize this initiative.  Dr. Capps sees that “in order to be successful, we will need to rely on as many members of the college community as we can and as many different constituencies of the college as we can.” He sees that we will establish and organize working groups or task forces that will look at each of these standards with representation from all members of the college community. Dr. Capps assumes that the VCCS will require that we administer this survey again this year and since CVCC did so well last year, why wouldn’t we want to voluntarily improve on those standards that we didn’t score as well on.  Dr. Capps welcomed ideas and discussion.
Will Sandidge stated that he had met with Kris Ogden on this and that they are coming up with a proposal to present to the Faculty Association, Classified Staff, Part-Time Staff and others in the college community in order to solicit input and obtain recommendations on how we can improve in all of these areas. They plan to run this proposal by Dr. Capps and an email should go out shortly to “everyone” at CVCC.
Dr. Muriel Mickles was introduced as the new Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. Mickles expressed her happiness to be in the meeting and looks forward to attending future Governance meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 1:23 p.m.
