Members Present: Caroline Bailey, Lorenz Chan, Brandon Huynh, Jill Markwood, Robert Moden, Jim Patterson, Michelle Penner, Barbara Scott, Katie Viar, and Tim Wilhelm
Members Absent: Curtis Davis, Hermina Hendricks, and Priscilla Liggon. Rick Tyler has asked to be withdrawn from the committee membership.
Old Business:
Taming of the Shrew Shakespeare play trip to Staunton is scheduled for Friday, February 13 with deadline to pay Feb. 6. This allows very little time for ticket sales. James Cameron will perform on February 5. He depicts John Rollison (1725-1780) Free Black Man.
The Touring Theatre North Caroline will present Duke Ellington Uptown musical presentation on February 26. The cost for students will be $2.00 and $5.00 for all others. A performance will be held at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Washington Museum trip will be held on March 21. Robert Moden and Caroline Bailey will supervise trip. Robert Moden will collect money for trip. Jim Patterson and Lorenz Chan can collect on Tuesday and Thursday. No special tours will be planned. $25 ticket price.
New Business:
April 14-19 is International Week. A performance by Jaball Africa is being sponsored by the SGA. Three international films could be shown. Monetary prizes are awarded for best food and best poster presentation. James Reid has agreed to come at a cost of around $1,000. This is transportation, hotel and meal cost only.
The Art Show will be held April 25. A rubric will be made for the judges. Best in Show will be purchased for around $400-$500. A discussion was held about holding an open student and staff voting period of two days. This would help promote the art.
Ms. Markwood will produce a list of all events for the spring semester and have that list sent out on everyone email.
If there is any remaining funds another trip to Blackfiars Playhouse could be planned for June 5 to see “The Merry Wives of Windsor”. A trip to see Little Town Players in Bedford “Barefoot in the Park could also be planned.
