Proposal for flags on campus to assist ESOL students- Approved $2,000
o Jill will complete the flags for campus. Details will be sent via e-mail.
Cindy Ferguson, M.Ed, Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Bonner Leader Program at the University of Lynchburg.
o Cindy graduated from CVCC and transferred to Randolph College.
o Has been invited to talk to students about her own success story.
o Tentative date: Thursday, November 21st at Noon. This could be advertised as a “Bring Your Own Lunch”
Botanical Gardens trip
o Deborah Harris will lead. Deborah will send an e-mail about her budget
Christmas Carol in December 2019
o Discussion of attending at the Academy vs. travelling to Richmond. This event needs someone to lead it. However, the Academy already offers discount tickets at no cost up to $25.00 to CVCC that shows their ID.
Black History Month
o 2 speakers approved with the budget of $500.00 each.
§ Courtney Smith - Northrop Grumman Corporation; American global aerospace and defense technology company (Prior work with Lockheed Martin), Black Female Engineer of the Year
§ Charles (Chazz) Scott – National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, providing national security to Congress, Department of Defense and the President
o Kingsley Chukwu leading. Last details and complete information will be sent via email.
Washington D.C. trip to Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC)- leaving Friday, April 10th
o Philmika leading and will reserve tickets for the museum. The tickets are free and the quote for the bus is currently.
o Discussion of organizing transportation
o Discussion of charging a specified amount
Costa Rica trip led by Lorenz Chan
o Price $2859
o Needs 9 people to sign up to continue the trip.
o Individuals must by 18 years old or older
o Will depart from Raleigh, North Carolina. Dates of trip: March 6, 2020 - March 14, 2020
o Proposal to offer one student a scholarship of $500 was approved by the committee

Native American Indian Cultural Day- November 18, 2019. This program was approved along with the budget of $2,400.00. Chris Bryant leading in charge of details and last minute information. The Multipurpose Room was reserved for the day of activities.
