October 22, 2013
The Curriculum and Instruction Policy Committee met on Monday, October 22, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the President’s Conference Room.  In attendance were Ava Connelly, Joey Fronheiser, Tammy Johnson (for Judy Graves), Jeff Laub, Brent Lester, Julie Loving, Muriel Mickles, Charles Poff, Matthew Poteat, Will Sandidge, and Ernie Wade.  Absent were Ruth Hedrick, Jim Lemons, and Larry Scott.
Ernie Wade called the meeting to order.  The minutes from the October 7 meeting were distributed for the committee to review.   Ernie made a motion to approve the minutes.  Jeff seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved.
Nuclear Technology Associate in Applied Science Degree:   Jeff Laub distributed the proposed curriculum which was approved by the CVCC Curriculum and Instruction Policy Committee on April 2, 2013, and has been sent to the VCCS for review.   Two changes are required.  CST 110 – Introduction to Communication does not meet the requirement as a humanities general education course.  Therefore, the Selected Elective is being changed to a Humanities Elective to meet general education requirements. AST 205 Business Communication will replace CST 110 to meet the oral communication needs of the students in the program. The option to take ENG 112 as a substitution for ENG 131 has been deleted. Since ENG 131 will be counted as a technical course in the curriculum, ENG 112 may not be used as a substitution.
Ernie made a motion to approve the changes to the Nuclear Technology program. Muriel seconded the motion.  The program was approved with suggested changes.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
