Curriculum and Instruction Policy Committee Proceedings
The Curriculum and Instruction Policy Committee met on Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m. in Room 5210. In attendance were Ava Connelly, Peter Dorman, Michael Farris, Jim Lemons, Brent Lester, Amy McIvor, Muriel Mickles, Elizabeth Narehood, Kris Ogden, and Jim Tuite.
Brent Lester called the meeting to order. He stated that the minutes of the last meeting are on Communication Central and if you have not had a chance to review them, let Ava know if there are any changes to be made. Michael Farris made a motion to approve the minutes. Peter Dorman seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
The next item on the agenda was the election of a chair and recorder. The committee unanimously elected Jim Lemons as Chair and Amy McIvor as Recorder. Peter Dorman and Ava Connelly were unanimously elected backup Chair and Recorder.
General Education Certificate
Peter presented curriculum changes to the General Education Certificate. ITE 115/119 and CST 100/110 will be substituted for HIS 121-122. This change will provide students with essential skills they need to pursue higher-level coursework. A second math class is being added for students to complete their math sequence in consecutive semesters, allowing them to better master the material. HLT/PED is being eliminated since SDV 100 satisfies the requirement for a personal development class and streamlines the program. Kris Ogden stated that the program will not be aid eligible since it does not lead to gainful employment. Muriel made a motion to accept the changes. Jim Lemons seconded the motion. The committee unanimously approved the changes, which will be effective Fall Semester 2017.
Curriculum Development and Modification Procedure
Kris Ogden discussed the proposed Curriculum Development and Modification Procedures, which outlines clearly defined processes for submitting curriculum proposals and changes. After reviewing the procedures, Jim Lemons stated that a program catalog page to clearly state admission requirements and aid-eligibility should be included with proposed curricula. It was recommended that changes be submitted two weeks prior to a scheduled Local Board meeting. Peter Dorman made a motion to accept the procedures, with recommended changes. Muriel Mickles seconded the motion. The committee unanimously approved the Curriculum Development and Modification Procedure.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
