SACSCOC update on our fifth-year report – Kris Ogden
Kris began by saying that the Evaluation and Assessment Committee was formed due to the troubles CVCC had with SACSCOC standard 18.104.22.168. This committee was to be provided updates on the assessment and SACSCOC accreditation and re-affirmation process and would be able to speak about CVCC’s assessment process, which they did when SACSCOC held a special on-site visit. Kris talked about the standards for the fifth-year report being changed and passed out a crosswalk for the old and new standards. CVCC will use the new standards on our fifth-year report that is due in September 2019.
Kris, Cynthia, Muriel, Kevin, Lana Velez, Lewis Bryant and Dr. John Capps will attend the SACSCOC Annual Meeting this December. A Resource Room is provided during the meeting to view successful fifth-year reports submitted by other institutions.
Cynthia asked what the recommended timeline would be for CVCC to consider the next QEP subject. Kris stated that the next decennial review for CVCC would be in 2023 and that an early start is a good idea but it should wait until after the fifth-year report is submitted. Kris also mentioned that there have been rumors of the past few years of the QEP requirement going away but it is still there currently.
Update on General Education Competencies Requirements and Assessment Plan – Kris Ogden
Kris went to a meeting at the VCCS System Office on August 30, where it was decided that VCCS College now have until March 2019 to submit their assessment plans to SCHEV, instead of the original deadline of November 2018. The General Education Task Force will meet on Friday, September 28, at 1pm to begin work on the assessment plan to turn into SCHEV.
Jim T. said that he talked with Will Sandidge and he will come to the November 6 meeting to give an update on Ad Astra.
Cynthia asked how the new General Education Assessment Policy will affect faculty. Kris stated that the General Education Task Force is made up of faculty and those members should report out to their peers in their disciplines. The task force will begin by mapping outcomes to the highest-enrolled general education classes. This process should also help identify any current holes in our assessment process and find out what could be added if needed. Cynthia said that this explanation was helpful to her.
Our next meeting is November 6, 2018.
Vic made the motion the meeting be adjourned, and Cynthia seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the meeting was adjourned at 1:18 p.m.
