Old Business: SACSCOC Visit Update and Fifth-Year Interim Report (Kris Ogden)
Kris Ogden reported on the SACSCOC site visit to CVCC from October 21-23, 2019. She sent everyone an email on October 23, 2019, reporting that CVCC received a favorable report with no recommendations and no follow-up required from Dr. Steven Sheeley, Vice President of SACSCOC. He thanked everyone for their hard work and warm hospitality to him and the members of his committee.
Kris commented on how far we have come, and she appreciates everyone’s willingness to help. Dr. Sheeley even observed how much the committee liked how we do things here at CVCC and that he would be taking back some ideas to share with other members of SACSCOC.
Kris announced we will now be undergoing a full off-site committee evaluation (Fifth-Year Interim review). The off-site committee will be here in December, and we will receive the official review report in January 2020. Ernie Wade asked what this review involved. Kris stated that it was to review the 22 standards used for CVCC’s reaffirmation. Due to issues we had in the past, we only had four years to complete this report. If we are successful our next review will be in 2024.
Ad Astra Visit Update (Kevin Riley)
Kevin Riley provided an update on the Ad Astra visit to CVCC on October 8, 2019. He said that in Fall 2019, we began using Ad Astra information to schedule classes to enable us to assist students with their Guided Pathway schedules. Ernie Wade asked if we were offering more nighttime classes and if not, would it help if we did offer those classes.
Jim Lemons said after realizing we were out of sync with some of the needs of our students and made changes because of Ad Astra, that the schedule is much better. CVCC will continue to monitor class demand time using Ad Astra.
Kevin Riley was pleased with the outcome of the visit.
Jim Tuite asked the committee if anyone had any new business.
Jim announced that because of the TransferVA initiative, there might be changes in the VCCS course catalog which will require some curricula changes. He will give the committee an update on the TransferVA initiative in January 2020.
Our next meeting will be on January 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM in Room 2205.
Jim Lemons made the motion to adjourn the meeting, and Ernie Wade seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved, and the meeting was adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
