The producers of the show may reach out you for further conversation if you are among the chosen respondent.
- American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
Someone broached the idea of establishing an AAUP chapter at CVCC. Tom Sparhawk explained that this is a nonprofit membership association of faculty and other academic professionals. The organization promotes and provides support to member chapters as they work to protect shared governance, academic freedom, and uphold professional standards and values. Others who have been members at some point chimed in their experiences. There was no support from the faculty present to start at chapter at CVCC, at this time.
- Travel reimbursement for faculty teaching at off-campus centers.
The administration is still in discussion; results will probably be available in April. It is not clear whether the reimbursement will be retroactive.
- Adding Course Prerequisites is still under consideration. The VCCS form 103 will be followed when documenting or instituting course prerequisites.
- Policy on dropping students from roll
There was a discussion on how students who don’t attend classes, or those who don’t meet the prerequisites should be dropped from the roll. If dropped administratively, the student does not get tuition refund. Faculty should advise students to drop classes where they don’t meet the prerequisites so they can get their tuition refund.
- Other announcements:
a. Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses versus Transfer Courses
b. The OER program at CVCC is now officially known as the “OpenEdCVCC: Innovation and
Affordability.” Flyers are posted in bulletin boards.
c. The CVCC Writing Center is now College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified,
thanks to the leadership of Matt Latimer, Cynthia Lofaso, and Lana Velez. It remarkable that
the Writing Center certification was obtained on first application attempt.
