  • Facilities still has a very good supply of PPE for distribution and all Fall classrooms have been supplied. If you notice the supply of PPE for your classrooms is low or almost out, please enter an order in Inventory Direct, or contact Linda Roberts/Jennifer Dowdy with your request.  In addition, we still have cloth masks available for staff and faculty, so please let us know if you need one while working on campus, or any other supplies.
  • The disinfection crew that Lewis was so instrumental in helping us get through the Budd Group has been very active in helping keep our campus disinfected as much as possible. Thanks to Cindy and others for helping us post the class schedules outside the classroom doors.  This is a key resource that both Facilities and the disinfection crew utilizes. In addition to cleaning the common and highly touched areas, they have done a good job moving around campus, and we appreciate their efforts.
  • The Cooling Tower replacement for Framatome is back in the works, and the contract has been rebid and rewarded once again. We will keep people posted once the work is scheduled to begin.
  • The HVAC Lab expansion project is still in the planning stages and we hope to have the drawings finished and the project go out to bid soon. The plan is to divide the current 4,000 square foot HVAC Lab in Framatome into three different classrooms for the CTE program.  The project will include the HVAC lab and the addition of two multi-purpose lab classrooms, possibly one for electrical use and one for future plumbing use, all within the former HVAV Lab space.  We will keep you posted as we know more and receive the final drawings.
  • The Amherst/Campbell renovation discussions are again back on the table.  There is still a significant amount of planning and preparation ahead for this project.  The preliminary drawings have been completed, but the construction is not expected to begin until Spring 2023.  The Campbell building first floor was originally scheduled to be renovated first and then the Amherst Hall building, but there is no active discussion on this project at the moment.
  • Bedford Hall Roof Replacement – This project is in the early drawings stage and a new roof is being designed for this building. Stay tuned for more details on this project.
  • Merritt Hall HVAC Replacement – as many of you are aware, the HVAC equipment is past its useful life span and Facilities is doing all that it can to keep it running for long as possible. We were able to convince the VCCS that something had to be done sooner than later and we were not going to be able to keep it running much longer. The VCCS has agreed to replace the HVAC system in the building and we are waiting on details. Please stay tuned as this will have a major impact on everyone’s schedule.
  • Facilities has made great effort to install touchless dispensers throughout the campus where practical. We have installed automatic hand sanitizer and soap dispensers and automatic sink and toilet flushers. Jennifer has been able to secure some touchless automatic paper towel dispensers and we now have them in stock and on our list to install soon. I am very excited to see some of the towel dispensers that halfway worked replaced with this new style of touchless dispenser in the very near future.
  • We are working on a quote to replace our water fountains on campus with both a touchless and bottle filler station. We currently are obtaining quotes to make this happen, but it is going slower than planned. Please stay tuned for more on this.
  • Lewis stated the overall budget will be sent to the President’s Cabinet on Monday, September 20th for final approval.  It is later than normal submitting due to meeting cancellations.  The preliminary budget has been sent to all departments.
  • Lewis has had several requests for COVID money.  One request is for new furniture that could be wiped down and disinfected.  The cloth furniture has presented several challenges for disinfection.  Please continue to send all request in for review.  The cut off for COVID money is set for May 2022.
  • Installation of the ALERTUS outdoor alerts system is in the works.  It will be similar to the system Liberty University utilizes, but on a smaller scale.  They will be placed in the parking lots at the top of the hill, on the roof of Amherst and Framatome, and near the tennis courts and walking trail.  The cost is expected to be around $100,000.  More information will be forthcoming.
  • Our next meeting will be October 26th at 1:00.
