CGC Consent Agenda Items:
Agenda Items:
RETIREMENT CELEBRATION (SYKES)
The President’s Cabinet discussed the increasing costs of the campus-wide Retirement Luncheon. Kris made a motion to combine the retirement luncheon with the Social Committee’s Spring Luncheon, and designate funds for departmental retirement celebrations. (The tradition of purchasing a rocker/chair will continue, and the President’s Office will fund departmental celebrations.) John P. seconded the motion.
With no further discussion, the motion carried unanimously.
GRADUATION REHEARSAL (SYKES)
Dianne stated (on the behalf of Michael Farris) a proposal was made to eliminate the graduation rehearsal. The President’s Cabinet discussed this idea and decided assurance was needed that graduation with no rehearsal would be error-free. John C. requested that Michael attend the next Cabinet meeting for further discussion.
Divisional Reports:
Chief of Police/Director of Campus Security
Russell stated the Safety and Security Committee is working on a proposal to reduce the replacement cost of a CVCC ID from $25 to $10.
Classified Staff Association
Lauren Calloway (in Ed McGee’s absence) reported the Classified Staff Association is working with the Bookstore to help fund regalia for those students in need.
Vice President of Workforce Solutions & Community Education
Ruth reported beginning May 1, Workforce will no longer offer a full-range of enrichment classes. She reported for the past three years, classes have been offered but had very low enrollment.
Ruth also reported the CVCC’s Department of Labor Grant will end this year. She stated as this grant funds the Career Connections Center, it will close on June 30, 2015. Ruth stated she hopes the College will be able to continue funding at some level but budgets must be reviewed before a decision is made. She stated the Career Connections’ staff will be leaving their positions on June 30.
Ruth stated CVCC’s involvement in the Region 2000 Workforce Center (better known as the One Stop Center at the Plaza) is also ending on June 30, 2015. Ruth stated the programs that CVCC is providing will now require an RFP submittal from organizations interested in providing those programs. She stated after reviewing costs, a decision was made not to submit an RFP.
Ruth stated her staff would like to see decisions made by the President’s Cabinet posted in the Daily Bulletin. Dianne will add this to the Daily Bulletin and a link to Communication Central where the minutes can be found.
Dean of Institutional Effectiveness
Kris requested to please encourage participation for those that received The Chronicle of Higher Education's 2015 Great Colleges to Work For survey through their email. She stated not everyone has been selected to participate. John C. asked that the Faculty and Classified Staff Association chairs email their constituencies to remind them completing the survey is very important.
Part-Time Association
Jana stated the Part-Time Association thanks everyone who participated in their pizza sale on March 17 that raised over $270 for the Student Emergency Fund. (Mike Bradford stated this was very much needed and appreciated.)
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services
Will reported an Amherst Center Taskforce has been created for the purpose of increasing enrollment.
Will stated he, Kris, and Jeff Laub are working with Ben Bowman of the Workforce Investment Board to create a Career Studies Certificate in Industrial Maintenance. Will stated a meeting is scheduled on April 2 for further discussion.
Will stated CVCC has plans to offer a cyber security Career Studies Certificate through SSDL with Northern Virginia Community College in fall of 2015.
The meeting adjourned at 1:57 p.m. The next President’s Staff meeting will be held on April 6, 2015.
