Agenda Items:
CVCC Calendar (MICKLES/FARRIS)
The President’s Cabinet revisited the CVCC proposed calendar as John had requested Tom take the issue (of Spring 2019-Faculty report January 2 with classes beginning January 7 or classes begin on January 14) to the Faculty Association to get additional opinions.
Tom reported 23 were in favor of classes beginning on January 14 and 13 were not. John requested Randall to review VCCS policy on the number of faculty research days required. Michael reported the VCCS policy stated there must be 20 days set aside for faculty research but it doesn’t specify when those days occur. Will stated classroom utilization could cause a problem as the last day of class is May 9 but exams begin on May 7.
John also requested Michael to acquire a written consent from Liberty University for CVCC to hold graduation on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the Vines Center.
Tom made a motion for classes to begin on January 14, 2019, with David seconding the motion.
The President’s Cabinet unanimously approved the motion contingent on HR obtaining approval from the VCCS that this proposal meets all criteria for faculty research days.
Tom stated the faculty preferred fall break to continue with the two days in October and three days during Thanksgiving.
The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m. The next President’s Staff meeting is scheduled for March 19, 2018.
