The Virginia Community College System's central offices are responsible for the administration and supervision of the system of community colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia under the authority of the State Board for Community Colleges.
The Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System is appointed by the State Board for Community Colleges. The Chancellor is the chief executive officer of the VCCS and serves as the secretary of the State Board for Community Colleges.
It is the duty of the Chancellor to formulate such regulations and provide such assistance in his office as will be necessary for the proper performance of his duties. The State Board prescribes the duties of the Chancellor who also carries out duties prescribed for him by law. At its discretion, the State Board approves the appointment by the Chancellor of such agents and employees as may be needed by him in the System offices to effect a proper organization to carry out the functions, duties, and powers conferred and imposed by law.
